Helicopter flying as a profession: Start with the CPL(H) at Heli-Flug

At Heli-Flug, you can follow this career path and acquire the CPL(H) professional pilot licence for helicopters. The aim of our modular training is to prepare you optimally for the requirements and responsibilities of a professional pilot. The modular structure allows for interruptions and you remain flexible in terms of time and finances. This is particularly interesting for all student pilots who are unable to concentrate on their training full-time and would like to complete it alongside their current job.
With the CPL(H) you can operate commercial flights and work in various areas of aviation, such as air rescue, transport for tourist and business events or flight training.
General requirements
The requirements for obtaining the CPL(H) commercial pilot licence include the following:
- Minimum age 18 years
- Helicopter pilot licence PPL(H) (training can be completed with us in advance)
- Class 1 medical certificate (medical)
- Proof of a valid background check in accordance with § 7 LuftSiG
- Radiotelephony licence BZF I (can be obtained as part of the training)
- Proof of 155 completed helicopter flight hours (including 50 hours as PIC, 10 hours in cross-country flight and at least 1 flight of at least 300 NM with landings at 2 aerodromes)
- Night flight authorisation (can be acquired as part of the training)
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of physics and maths
Theoretical training
During your training with us, you will first go through a teaching phase (possible as a distance learning course, face-to-face lessons or even individual lessons), followed by an individual learning phase. This structure enables you to consolidate what you have learnt and prepare yourself optimally for the final theoretical examination. You will take this exam at the Federal Aviation Office in Braunschweig.
The subjects & topics covered in the theory block, which comprises at least 250 hours, include
- Air law
- Navigation & radio navigation
- Technology
- Aerodynamics
- Instruments
- (Flight) operational procedures
- Meteorology
- Human performance
- Flight planning
- Flight performance
- Radiotelephony if necessary
Practical training
The practical training for the CPL(H) is designed to expand and deepen your PPL(H) training skills - under the guidance and supervision of our experienced flight instructors. It includes, for example:
- At least 30 flying hours plus 5 hours night flying (NVFR training)
- Procedures and inspections before take-off and after landing
- 10 hours of simulated instrument flight
- Navigation flights / cross-country flights
- Challenging approaches in the terrain and advanced flight manoeuvres
- Emergency procedures & external loading exercises
- Practice approaches to controlled commercial airports
Once all practical parts have been completed in accordance with JAR-FCL, a recognised FE(H) examiner will conduct the practical examination. If this is successful and the theoretical part has also been completed, you have made it - you are now authorised to fly helicopters commercially!
Good to know
Do you already have another pilot licence, e.g. for aircraft? Talk to us! The scope and duration of training to become a professional pilot can often be significantly reduced on request thanks to overlapping prior knowledge. You can be credited for subjects or flying hours in both the theoretical and practical parts of your licence.
